Addition to my sewing room

I found this at the local thrift store today. It is a reading podium but thought it would be good for a standing computer desk for my laptop. There are shelves below that are holding some UFOs, a lovely tin and some sewing books.

I Spy Fabrics

My squares for the I spy swap are all cut and ready to send. I am supposed to get back 200 different squares. It will be fun to see what comes back.

I spy audition templates

As I worked on cutting squares for the I Spy I found that I was having a problem visualizing where to make the cuts to optimize the number of blocks in the fabric piece. I remembered that I have some clear plastic sheets, cut them into 4 inch squares and drew in seam lines and center of the block, then used them to audition blocks. This worked very well for me. I then used a cutting template and roller blade to cut them out. I made a pdf file this morning to print them out. Click here to get Audition Templates to print out on transparencies. Make sure to use no print scaling on the print setting.

I am participating in a "I spy" fabric swap. I have pulled some fabrics from my stash that will work. This one is a lot of fun. The fun starts with find the frogs and making the most of the fabric.

For the swap they want 20 4 inch squares of each fabric. Each square needs to have something of interest. This means I will be "fancy cutting" this fabric to cut out just frogs. I used a template to get the size right then roller cut to the exact size. Takes a little time but found my 20 frogs plus a few more.
